The Health and Family Welfare Department is working on the feasibility of introducing a common heath insurance scheme for people from all sections of society.
Sources in the Health Department told The Hindu that Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader was keen on introducing free healthcare for those below the poverty line (BPL) and above poverty line (APL).
Sources said the Minister had asked the officials to study the possibility of bringing all the existing insurance schemes under a single window.

Launched to provide cashless treatment to families living below the poverty line for major ailments that require hospitalisation and surgery, the government health insurance schemes such as Yashaswini and Vajpayee Arogyasri cover a host of non-communicable and cardiovascular diseases.
