Only three out of the top 10 rank-holders in the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) for engineering admissions this year are from Karnataka. Last year, all the top 10 rank-holders were from the State.

The results were annou nce d by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) on Sunday. The online test was conducted on May 13 at 291 test centres in 137 cities across the country.
While 35.1% of the 62,306 candidates who took the test were from Karnataka, 42% of the top 100 ranks and 28.4% of the top 1,000 ranks have been bagged by them.
Last year, 33% of the 58,932 candidates who took the test were from Karnataka, and they bagged 70% of the top 100 ranks and 39.8% of the top 1,000 ranks.

An analysis of the results reveals that overall, 3,955 of the top 5,000 rank-holders had secured more than 70% marks in the entrance test, while the remaining 1,045 secured above 67.78% but below 70%.
“It is pretty good performance from the students of the State. Compared to the first results, where not even 10% of the students from the State could figure in the top 100, we have come a long way. Also, a score of 168 is a tall score and two were able to get it. Based on tie-breaker rules, the boy from Karnataka was given the first rank,” said S. Kumar, executive secretary of COMEDK.
A notification from COMEDK states that students will be able to access their ranks by using their ‘applicant login ID’. The number of seats available, the quantum of tuition fees, and counselling dates would be notified soon, said the release.
