‘CM should quit if he is not able to govern’

‘Kumaraswamy is under pressure’

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy shedding tears at a party meeting in Bengaluru has evoked different reactions from senior politicians in Belagavi.

While Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi has said that there is no need to attach much importance to the incident, BJP leader Umesh Katti has asked Mr. Kumaraswamy to quit if he feels he is not able to run the government.

Mr. Katti found the incident ridiculous and likened Mr. Kumaraswamy’s alliance partner, Congress, to a “second wife”.

“The Chief Minister is under pressure from his “second wife [Congress”. Her demands are too many. He knows he is not able to run the government in this set-up. That is why he is crying. He should quit if he feels he cannot function,” Mr. Katti said. He was speaking to presspersons in Hukkeri. He said that he had never seen any incumbent Chief Minister shed tears like Mr. Kumaraswamy did.

Mr. Jarkiholi was, however, sympathetic to Mr. Kumaraswamy. Many Chief Ministers have cried in public in the past. B.S. Yeddyurappa has cried in public too. Some leaders have cried while in power and some have cried while in the Opposition. They are personal matters. They should not be viewed politically, he said. He was speaking to presspersons at his residence in Belagavi.
