A company headed by Prakash K. Koliwad, son of Ranebennur Congress MLA K.B. Koliwad, took up cloud-seeding in Haveri on Monday.
Mr. Prakash, who heads Kyathi Climate Modification Consultants, told The Hindu that the cloud-seeding was done in association with PKK Initiatives, an NGO in Haveri and Dharwad districts. “Nearly six cloud formations found in Hubballi; Kundagol and Bankapur in Dharwad, and Shiggaon in Haveri were seeded. We planned to go for seeding in Ranebennur, my hometown, but there were no clouds. The seeding was good in Hubballi, which received rainfall in the evening. Only Tummanakatti village near Ranebennur received rain,” Mr. Prakash said. He said his firm had been engaged in cloud-seeding in Maharashtra for nine years. Here, cloud-seeding was done using the infrastructure that was applied in Maharashtra. Mr. Prakash said his firm had taken permission from five Central government departments for this purpose. The Chief Secretary said there was no need to take permission from the Karnataka government as the entire exercise would be done at our own expenses,” he said.
