Members of the Chikka Mandya Residents’ Welfare Committee staged a protest on Monday demanding that the Mandya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) allot sites to the poor people at their village.

Hundreds of people who lost their land to develop Chikka Mandya layout several years back participated in the protest.

MUDA had acquired more than 400 acres of land at Chikka Mandya to develop Chikka Mandya layout. The authority had promised to allot housing sites to the villagers.

However, according to the protesters, “MUDA had reneged on its promise.” Beating drums, protesters reached the city from Chikka Mandya in a procession and staged a demonstration at Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle off Bangalore-Mysore Highway for a while. Traffic was disrupted for sometime following the protest.

Later, under the leadership of former Minister M.S. Atmananda, protesters reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Additional Deputy Commissioner Shankarappa.

The MUDA should develop housing sites for the economically weaker sections at Chikka Mandya village, Mr. Atmananda requested Mr. Shankarappa.
