The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has given the green signal for widening the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway into a six-lane road. The much-awaited permission for the National Highways division of the Public Works Department (PWD) to go ahead with the feasibility-cum-Detailed Project Report (DPR) for widening the four-lane highway into six-lane has been granted, a senior official told The Hindu.
The widening has been necessitated by the fact that travel between the two cities takes five hours during weekends and extended holidays.
The private agency Secon, which prepared a preliminary report last year, has been entrusted with preparing the feasibility-cum-DPR. “It is likely to be submitted before the end of 2015,” the official added.

The process of identifying land that needs to be acquired for the expansion of the highway and laying a service road along 123 km stretch of the highway will be carried out simultaneously.
