Centres for endangered languages in Central varsities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned Rs. 3.6 crore each to the Central University of Karnataka in Gulbarga and Central University of Kerala at Kasaragod for establishing centres of endangered languages.

The Hindu here on Sunday that the centres established in the two Central universities would work in a cluster format as a consortium to develop numeric and coastal languages, with Central University of Karnataka in Gulbarga as the lead cluster.

Mandate

Sources said the two Central universities had been given the mandate to take up research on endangered languages and would coordinate with each other.

Sources said Central University of Karnataka in Gulbarga would soon hold a two-day workshop for preparing a work plan for setting up a centre for endangered languages.
