It is important to sustain cultural traditions and celebrate diversity which calls for an ability to accept it. “Diversity should not only be accepted but also celebrated,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
He was addressing the 5th “International Conference and Gathering of Elders” here on Sunday.
“No one should be subjected to persecution and discriminated against because of their different attires or different ways of worship and dissimilar traditions,” said the chief of the Sangh Parivar fountainhead, which has come under flak in recent months over the activities of the outfits affiliated to it, including on reconversions.

Mr. Bhagwat said that “universe is a single organism, and to have universal well-being, people need to co-exist as one. The modern concept of life suggests that we need to tolerate each other.”
“Utility is not the basis for acceptance. Different traditions look different but they are one. Oneness is the absolute truth and the permanent reality. Our tradition says we need to sustain everything, accept all nature and every other tradition.”
The coming together of the ancient traditions could provide the basis for the well-being of the universe, he said.
