Cauvery Jagruti Teertayatra arrives in Mandya

The seventh ‘Cauvery Jagruti Teertayatra’, a rally to create awareness against polluting the Cauvery and also urging the public to save water, arrived in the town on Thursday.

Warm reception was accorded to the members of the organising agencies, Akhila Bharata Sanyasi Sangha of Coimbatore and Cauvery River Protection Trust of Hogenakkal, when the rally reached the town.

Special puja was accorded to the statue of Cauvery at the ‘Cauvery Vana’, a park in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner.

Former Minister M.S. Athmananda and others welcomed the rally and participated in the puja. Members of the sangha and trust requested people to realise the importance of Cauvery and other rivers.

Speaking to The Hindu , Arun Veeramani, trust secretary, said the teertayatra commenced on October 22 at Bhagamandala in Kodagu and would culminate at Poompuhar, Nagapatnam district, in Tamil Nadu on November 13.
