Cardiac centre will come up in Kalaburagi, says Qamarul

The State government has decided to establish a state-of-the-art cardiac centre with latest facilities for open heart surgery here in collaboration with Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, according to Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs Minister Qamarul Islam.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag to commemorate the 66th Republic Day function here on Monday, he said the State government had earmarked Rs. 9 crore for the purpose and the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board (HKRDB) had decided to allocate another Rs. 6 crore.

Mr. Islam said the government had permitted the tender given to private entrepreneurs to develop a green field airport in Kalaburagi and the remaining work was likely to be handed over to the Airports Authority of India.

“The work on the Kalaburagi Airport is in the advanced stages of completion. Another Rs. 100 crore is required to complete 20 per cent of the remaining work. The airport is likely to be functional within a year.” Mr. Islam said the HKRDB had released Rs. 65 crore for constructing approach roads and other related work and the tenders of the work would be finalised within a week and the work would start from the first week of February. Mr. Islam said that a theme park consisting of a botanical garden, aquarium, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 5,000 and an open air theatre with a seating capacity of 20,000 would be established on a 25 acre land provided by the Kalaburagi Development Authority at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
