Canvassing gathers momentum in Mandya

Candidates of Congress, JD(S) and AAP meet voters in different parts of the district

Major political parties intensified their campaigning for elections to the Mandya Lok Sabha segment in the district on Friday.

While Congress candidate Ramya, MP, canvassed in Maddur, her opponent C.S. Puttaraju, Janata Dal (Secular) candidate, campaigned in Malavalli.

Aam Aadmi Party candidate C.S. Hanumanthappa sought votes from the people at the vegetable market here, and BJP candidate B. Shivalingaiah’s wife Meera Shivalingaiah campaigned at different places in the city.

Mr. Puttaraju, accompanied by the former MLA, Nagamani Nagegowda, and K. Annadani, canvassed in H. Basapura, Byadarahalli, Lingapatna, Nittur, Thorekadanahalli, Yethambadi, Huskur, Agasanapura and other villages.

Roadshows

Ms. Ramya attended meetings with party workers in Nagamangala and Maddur, besides conducting roadshows in several villages in two taluks.

Mr. Hanumanthappa, while seeking votes, has requested the people to reject the corrupt political parties in the election.

‘All-round development’

Bharatiya Janata Party candidate B. Shivalingaiah told reporters here on Friday that if elected, he would work for the all-round development of Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.

Mr. Shivalingaiah said he would give priority to the development of Mysugar mill and the Pandavapura Sahakara Sakkare Karkhane to safeguard the interests of sugarcane growers.

Power supply

He stressed the need for continuous power supply for irrigation and to establish warehouses and cold storages for farmers in the district.

He promised to address the lack of sufficient staff in government hospitals and health centres. “I will take steps to address the matter,” he said.

Mandya district BJP president H. Honnappa, leaders Sharvani, Mallikarjun, H.S. Narasimha Murthy, and K. Naganna were present.
