Mandya district has received a number of projects in the State Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.
A sum of Rs. 120 crore has been set aside for the revival of the State-run Mysore Sugar Company Ltd., Besides, modernisation of Shimsha right bank canals, setting up of organic jaggery park, filling of lakes, restoration or improvement of historical monuments at Srirangapatna and Melkote and improvement of roads surrounding sugar factories across the district are among the prominent announcements made by the Chief Minister.
The allocation of Rs. 120 crore for the revival of Mysore Sugar Company has been hailed by one and all, including leaders of the Opposition parties.

However, in general, the budget attracted a mixed reaction, especially because there is no announcement pertaining to the industrial sector in the district.
M.S. Atmananda, former minister and Mandya Pradesh Congress Committee (MDCC) president, described the budget as far-sighted. “Mr. Siddaramaiah has presented a good budget, focusing on the overall development of the State,” Mr. Atmananda told The Hindu.
However, the veteran leader of the Congress said that he was expecting a multi-specialty hospital for Mandya and some allocation for the industrial development.

B. Shivalingaiah, a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), welcomed the budget and said, “The allocation of funds to agriculture/horticulture and Mysugar will help the farm sector. We should welcome the Chief Minister’s decision to construct a balancing reservoir on the upstream of Mekedatu, across Cauvery river, to help Mandya farmers.”
