The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to observe the swearing-in ceremony of the Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress coalition government on Wednesday as “anti-people’s mandate day” throughout the State.
The BJP could not get a majority despite emerging as the single largest party in the Assembly elections. Its State president B.S. Yeddyurappa had to step down without taking the floor test as the party could not woo MLAs from other parties.
The BJP has maintained that the present alliance between the JD(S) and the Congress is “unholy” and “subversion of people’s mandate.”

Announcing the party’s decision to observe anti-people’s mandate day on Wednesday, party State general secretary C.T. Ravi said Mr. Yeddyurappa would lead the protest in Bengaluru. A host of senior leaders from Bengaluru, including MLAs and councillors, from the city will participate in the protest, he said.

Mr. Ravi said the party workers will stage a protest throughout the State by wearing black badges.

Likening the coalition partners to snake and mongoose that are bitter enemies, Mr. Ravi predicted that the government would not last long. “This coalition has been formed with the sole intention of keeping the BJP out of power,” he said. Mr. Ravi said none of the BJP leaders would take part in the swearing-in ceremony.
