With the former Deputy Chief Minister, R. Ashok, withdrawing from the race for contesting from Bangalore North Lok Sabha seat, the Bharatiya Janata Party has favoured the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda for this seat.
The selection of a candidate for Bangalore North had turned out to be a problem for the BJP as two of its prominent leaders were competing for ticket. The complexity of the problem had further increased with the former Minister, Shobha Karandlaje, also throwing her hat in the ring.
The party had tried to resolve the issue by proposing to field Mr. Ashok from Bangalore North, Mr. Sadananda Gowda from Mysore and Ms. Karandlaje from Udupi-Chickmagalur constituencies. But Mr. Ashok finally pulled out of the race, paving the way for Mr. Sadananada Gowda, according to a prominent BJP leader. Sources said that in the wake of these developments, the party is considering fielding Ms. Karandlaje either from Mysore or Udupi-Chickmagalur constituencies. “If Ms. Karandlaje is fielded from Udupi-Chickmagalur seat, then C.H. Vijayshankar, former MP, will be given ticket for Mysore seat. Similarly, if she is fielded from Mysore, then the former Minister C.T. Ravi may be chosen for Udupi-Chickmagalur seat,” sources said.

The party held a daylong meeting of its Lok Sabha election management committee here on Monday to create awareness among its cadre on various procedures for the polls and the preparations.
