BJP candidates elected president, vice-president of Shikaripur TP

Parameshwarappa Hitla and Roopa Dayanand of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were elected as president and vice-president of Shikaripur Taluk Panchayat (TP) respectively.

In the 19-member body, the BJP enjoys a clear majority with 12 members while the remaining seven belong to the Congress party.

In the election held on Tuesday, Mr. Hitla and Geetha Rajeshwar of Congress had filed nominations for the post of president.

Ms. Dayanand and Daakshayanamma Mahendra of Congress were contesting for the post of vice-president.

Mr. Hitla and Ms. Dayanand won by 12 votes each. The Congress candidates for the posts managed to get six votes each.

Sowbhagyamma, a Congress member from Kappanahalli segment was not present for the election.
