The BJP has contended that nomination papers and affidavit filed by the Congress candidate C.H. Vijayshankar who will contest from the Mysuru Parliamentary constituency, are defective and hence liable to be rejected.
Though the Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar, who is also the Returning Officer, rejected the BJP’s contention after the scrutiny of the papers, the party intends to take up the matter with the High Court and will file a case in this regard.
G. Madhusudhan, BJP spokesperson, said at a press conference that the affidavit filed by the Congress candidate was defective as certain columns were left blank. He said there were other ‘discrepancies’ in the nomination papers and the notary had failed to enter the documentation number besides mentioning the date.

“Though we brought this to the notice of the Returning Officer, our objections were overruled and hence we will file a case in the High Court tomorrow (Thursday),” Mr. Madhusudhan said.
The Congress has dismissed the BJP’s claims and said that the nomination papers were scrutinised and verified by legal experts before the submission was found to be in order.
It accused the BJP of trying to create confusion in the minds of the people in the run up to the elections.

Congress spokesperson H.A. Venkatesh said the decision of the Returning Officer on the validity of the nomination papers was final as per the court ruling and it was regrettable that the BJP was politicising even the nomination process.
