Bharatanatya students put their best foot forward

Bharatanatya students enthusiastically took part in a competition conducted as part of the National Dance Festival 2011 here on Sunday.

Good participation

About 126 students from across the State and neighbouring States participated in the event conducted in sub-junior, junior and senior categories by the Gurudeva Lalithakala Academy.

Senior bharatanatya exponent Ramamurthy Rao inaugurated the competition at the Jaganmohan Palace auditorium here. The competitions were conducted at Nataraja Vedike and Bharata Vedike.

Academy managing director Radhakrishna P.M. said dancers from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Goa had shown interest in the event, which was organised to encourage young talent.

The best dancers would be conferred with the titles ‘Natya Mandara', ‘Natya Varshini' and ‘Natya Sammohini', he said.

Chetana Radhakrishna, director of the academy, performed with her students at the valedictory function that brought the curtains down on the event.
