A team from the University Grants Commission (UGC), headed by C.S. Dubey, Director, New Dehli University’s north Campus, visited Smt. Saraladevi Agarwal Government First Grade College on Thursday and Friday.
The visit was in connection with an application from the college seeking autonomy.
Mr. Dubey, along with other members of the team, which included S. Mohammed, Principal, Osmania Autonomous College, Kurnool; N. Gopukumar, Deputy Secretary, UGC Regional Office, Bengaluru; and L.R. Naik, Registrar (Evaluation) Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari, went round the college premises to ascertain the facilities, quality of teaching and the like.

The team also interacted with the students and the staff to ascertain their opinion. If granted autonomy, the college can start new courses, have its own syllabus and conduct examinations and valuation, among other things.
In an informal chat with presspersons, Dr. Dubey said that the staff and students appeared to be zealous to get autonomy. He also pointed out that there was need to improve the infrastructure, especially in appointing permanent teaching staff, upgrading the library, furniture, waiting rooms for ladies, among other things. The college development committee had promised to take steps to fulfil the requirements.
Sources informed that the team has submitted its report to the UGC through Mr. Gopukumar, before leaving Ballari.
