The residents of Asare, home for the mentally challenged, ventured into a different area here on July 6. They were provided an opportunity to get a feel of paddy cultivation.

According to a press release issued by Manipal University here, the residents, dressed in traditional attire, planted paddy saplings in a small plot of cultivable land on their campus. They enjoyed wading through water and mud to plant the saplings. It was an experience that gave them the idea of paddy cultivation.

Rajeshkrishna Bhandary, assistant professor from Kasturba Medical College, parents of Asare residents and members of the governing council of Asare were present. Asare has 34 residents and four day-care children, the release added.
