Appointment orders being issued to 1,704 surveyors

Minister for Revenue V. Srinivasa Prasad said here on Wednesday that appointment orders of 1,704 candidates selected for the posts of surveyors in the Survey Department are being issued.

In a symbolic gesture, the Minister issued appointment orders to six surveyors at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Prasad said that there were 4,012 sanctioned posts of surveyors in the department and 1,704 people had been selected now.

The break-up of candidates selected for the posts is: 888 candidates under General Merit, 237 Scheduled Castes, 49 Scheduled Tribes, 68 Category I; 254 Category 2A; 61 Category 2B; 64 Category 3A and 84 candidates under Category 3B. Of the 1,704 appointees, 528 are women.

Appointment orders of 165 people had been held back as they did not have the mandatory two-year work experience. However, the State Cabinet has decided to issue appointment orders to them in a couple of days, he said.

Mr. Prasad said that the government had taken steps to increase fee paid to the licensed surveyors (working in the Survey Department) for the survey of land from Rs. 300 to Rs. 800.

Village Accountant posts

The Minister said that steps had been taken to fill vacant posts of Village Accountants and the government is contemplating direct recruitment to 30 posts of tahsildars.

Mr. Prasad said that five districts, Bangalore Rural, Ramanagaram, Belgaum, Tumkur and Chickballapur, have been selected under the National Land Records Modernisation Programme, a Centrally-funded project. He said that Rs. 14 crore had been released for the implementation of the programme.

Under the project, land records in five districts will be resurveyed, he said and added that the programme would be extended to the other districts in the coming years. The Minister said that the national programme aims at avoiding land disputes.
