Appoint observers for LS bypolls: JD(S)

The Janata Dal (Secular) on Wednesday alleged that the Congress has been misusing the State administrative machinery in Bangalore Rural and Mandya Lok Sabha constituencies to garner votes in the bypolls to be held on August 21 and demanded appointment of observers in the two constituencies.

Addressing presspersons here, Janata Dal(S) leader and former Minister H.D. Revanna alleged that the Congress government has been spending money to woo voters. He feared that polling would not be held in a free and fair manner if the Election Commission does not appoint officials from other States as observers.

Asked about its stance vis-à-vis the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said that his party has not struck any tie-up with that party. The party candidates will win on their own in Mandya and Bangalore Rural segments, Mr. Revanna said. In a move to grab the two Lok Sabha seats vacated by the Janata Dal(S), the Congress has been admitting leaders from other political parties.
