Annual cattle fair begins at Hemagiri

The historical cattle fair started at Hemagiri near K.R. Pet in Mandya district on Monday.

The seven-day historical cattle fair got off to a colourful start at Hemagiri near K.R. Pet of the district on Monday.

The fair is held annually as a part of the famous car festival of Sri Kalyana Venkataramana Swamy temple in K.R. Pet taluk.

K.R. Pet tahsildar, H.L. Shivaramu inaugurated the fair, which will end on January 26.

Farmers from Hubballi, Haveri, Sindhanur, Ranebennur, Davanagere, Shivamogga and other parts of the State have brought their livestock to the fair for trading this year.

According to the K.R. Pet taluk administration, the price range of bullocks (for a pair) starts from Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 1.5 lakh.

The farmers would bring at least 1,000 pairs this year to the market, sources at the taluk administration said.

The taluk administration has provided fodder, water, electricity, security and other facilities for cattle and farmers.
