Taking exception to the steps aimed at facilitating privatisation, anganwadi workers from across the State plan to hold an indefinite strike from February 2 under the aegis of Karnataka Rajya Anganwadi Noukarara Sangha.
State president of the association S. Varalakshmi told presspersons here on Thursday that agitations would be held in front of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi and Dharwad.
She said that the main demands of the association were job security for the anganwadi workers, increase in their honorarium to Rs. 10,000, initiating steps to prevent harassment of the workers, continuation of the Integrated Child Development Scheme and others.

Ms. Varalakshmi said that the steps, under the ‘Mission Mode’, pointed towards privatisation and of the scheme. Taking exception to the authority given to the Deputy Commissioners and the Chief Secretary for dismissing anganwadi workers on the spot, Ms. Varalakshmi said that the association wanted the government to follow the due procedure before initiating any decisive action.
Ms. Varalakshmi said that as a precursor to the indefinite strike, a convention of anganwadi workers had been organised in Hubballi on Friday. A seminar on “Privatisation of Anganwadi Centres- Impact; Need for Minimum Wages for Anganwadi Workers” would also be held.
