The Centre has lowered the budget allocation for ICDS schemes by Rs. 9,637 crore against the Rs. 18,391 crore that had been allocated in the 2014-15 budget.

Ms. Patil accused the Union government for trying to dilute the one of the oldest programmes to improve nutrition in children and pregnant women.

More than 14 lakh anganwadi workers were working with mere honorarium from last four decades and around 8 crore beneficiaries were covered under the scheme every year.
