Minister instructs officials to prepare project reports

Underlining the need for all-round development of Mandya district, Housing Minister and Mandya district in-charge M.H. Ambareesh on Tuesday instructed officials to prepare a comprehensive project report.

The Minister reviewed the progress of projects taken up by various departments at a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here. He instructed officials to take suggestions from MLAs while preparing project reports.

“The district has to develop in all sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture and housing. Officials should prepare the reports before the next review meeting,” he said.

A slew of complaints were aired when the Minister asked MLAs to make note of problems being faced in each constituency.

Srirangapatna MLA A.B. Ramesh Babu Bandisidde Gowda drew his attention to the tardy progress of housing projects and ration card distribution. “Beneficiaries of housing projects were selected at gram sabhas. However, the government is yet to approve the beneficiaries’ list,” he said.

The MLA requested Mr. Ambareesh to take steps to expedite ration card distribution and improve parking and other facilities at tourism places in Srirangapatna.

Nagamangala MLA N. Cheluvaraya Swamy highlighted issues such as defunct transformers, sugarcane dues and water scarcity in his constituency. He urged the State government to conduct a probe into the alleged irregularities in the State-run MySugar and PSSK factories.

While Pandavapura MLA K.S. Puttannaiah sought more funds for the Suvarna Grama project and action against illegal sale of liquor, MLC Ramakrishna said facilities at Kokkare Bellur Bird Sanctuary and Satyagraha Soudha should be improved.

K.R. Pet MLA K.C. Narayana Gowda, Maddur MLA D.C. Thammanna and Marithibbe Gowda, MLC, raised issues such as lake rejuvenation, water scarcity, repairs to Visvesvaraya Canal and distribution of seeds to farmers.

Mandya Deputy Commissioner B.N. Krishnaiah, Mandya Superintendent of Police Borase Bhushan Gulabrao and Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P.C. Jayanna were present.

Bypass or flyover

Later, Mr. Ambareesh told journalists that the State government would construct a flyover or a bypass to ease traffic congestion on the Bangalore-Mysore State Highway.

Later, he visited Halahalli slum and houses of pourakarmikas in Mandya.
