Almatti dam almost full

Meanwhile, the Almatti dam is expected to reach its maximum storage level by Monday.

With the inflow steadily increasing, the countdown has begun for Almatti dam to reach the full storage level.

According to the officials of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL), the dam will possibly reach thes full storage capacity by Monday itself.

This will be the first major dam in the State which is going to get filled to the brim as no other dam has received this quantum of inflow.

The officials said that the dam has to receive just about a ft of water to enable it to reach the full storage level of 519.60 m.

On Saturday, the total water level recorded was 519.25 m, while the full storage capacity is 519.60 m. While the dam’s total capacity is 123 tmcft, on Saturday the officials recorded the capacity at 117.038 tmcft. The inflow was at the rate of 69,658 cusecs and the outflow 31,683 cusecs.

“When the dam fills up completely, then we will increase the outflow based on the quantum of inflow. When the dam gets filled, then we can discharge the same quantum of water we receive into the dam,” the officials said.

At present, water is being discharged to the power generation unit; however, if needed, the crest gates could also be opened to release more water.
