Akkamahadevi Women’s University to hold 10th convocation on February 13

Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura, will hold its 10th convocation on February 13. Stating this at a press conference on Monday, Vice-Chancellor Sabiha said that Higher Education Minister G.T. Deve Gowda will preside over the function while Nemichandra, General Manager, HAL Management Academy, will deliver the convocation address.

This year, a Honorary Doctorate would be given to Nanda Patil, assistant professor, Karnatak College in Dharwad, for her significant contribution to the field of music.

Prof. Sabiha said this year, 56 students would receive gold medals for excellent academic performance. A total of 10,873 students are eligible for graduation, post graduation and diploma course this year. Atleast 46 students will get Ph.D. while ten completed their M. Phil this year. “The number of total gradates this year is 1,293 more than last year,” she said.

Two new endowment lectures, four new gold medals and one scholarship have been added.

She said the university had sought ₹60 crore from the government for various development works. However, the government did not make any announcement on this in the budget. She said the university has a 170kV solar unit installed on the premises that will save electricity cost of around ₹1 lakh every month.

Prof. Sabiha added that a state-of-the-art museum to depict various facets of women’s life was being planned and the final blueprint being prepared.
