Upendra and Sanjana were swarmed by fans in Shikaripur

Kannada film actors Upendra and Sanjana campaigned for Geetha Shivarajkumar, Janata Dal (Secular) candidate from the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, here on Sunday and Monday.

Mr. Upendra and actor Shivarajkumar participated in roadshows at Ayanur, Kumsi, Shiralakoppa, Anavatti and Sorab on Sunday.

At the election campaign meeting of the JD(S) in Shikaripur town, the actors were swarmed by eager fans. The police had to resort to mild caning to control the crowd.

In Sorab town, Mr. Upendra and Mr. Shivarajkumar entertained the public by singing popular Kannada songs.

They requested the employees of the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant to support the JD(S). They also interacted with people at the Mahatma Gandhi Park.

Speaking to presspersons in Shimoga city later, Mr. Upendra said that his electioneering had evoked good response. “Mr. Shivarajkumar is a friend from 20 years. As his wife has entered politics to serve society, it becomes my responsibility to support her. I’m confident that Ms. Shivarajkumar will win the elections by a huge margin,” he said.

Mr. Upendra said that he has good friends in the Congress and the BJP as well. “My participation in campaigning is not against any party or individual. I am here to support Mr. Shivarajkumar and his wife, with whom I share a close relationship,” he said.

Mr. Shivarajkumar said that Kannada film actors Yogi, Yash, Amulya, Ragini, Sri Murali and Ravichandran are likely to campaign for his wife.

Ms. Shivarajkumar and Madhu Bangarappa, Sorab MLA, were present.
