In order to spread the message of peace and communal harmony, members of various progressive associations took out a rally here on Wednesday.
Under the banner of ‘Pragatipara Sanghatanegalu’, they marched from the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway to the office of Deputy Commissioner here.
Addressing the gathering, the activists stressed the urgency of bringing back the peaceful atmosphere in Kodagu, which witnessed clashes following the celebration of birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan on Tuesday, and other parts of the state and appealed for maintaining communal harmony.

They urged the State government to initiate action against those forces that disturbed communal harmony in Kodagu.
The activists also opposed Jnanpith Award winner Girish Karnad’s remarks on Magadi Kempegowda, the 16th century ruler and founder of Bengaluru.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner B.N. Poornima and demanded action against the forces that were behind Tuesday’s developments in Kodagu.
Members of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS), Karnataka Vidyarti Sanghatane, Karnataka Janashakti and Karnataka Shramik Shakti were present.
