“The time of Alternative Dispute Resolution has come and the legal fraternity should accept it,” said N. Kumar, Judge of Karnataka High Court here on Saturday.
He was delivering the keynote address at the one-day programme on ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) – Arbitration, Conciliation and Mediation” organized by the Bengaluru Regional Centre of International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), Udupi Bar Association and Vaikunta Baliga College of Law (VBCL), here.
Mr. Justice Kumar said that legal fraternity should understand the ADR and follow it so that the society, especially the litigants could benefit from it. The ADR had come to the fore because of certain defects of the existing system.

The existing legal system being followed in India was inherited from the British. The Indian legal system was the best legal system in the world and the country had the best legal talent.
But the legal system had not been able to deliver to its optimum because of the high population in the country, lesser number of courts and judges and the long time taken to dispose the cases. This made it essential to give importance to ADR, he said.
Shivashankar B. Amarannavar, District and Sessions Judge, Dayananda K., President of Udupi Bar Association, Prakash Kanive, Principal of V.B. College of Law, were present.
