Aadhaar helpdesk to be set up at Nada Kacheris

Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha has said that the Aadhaar was not just an identity card but a vital document for people, especially for those who were denied resources for want of identity. The Mysuru district administration had been successful in giving Aadhaar card to most people in the district, she said.

Inaugurating a training workshop for officials and other stakeholders on Thursday, Ms. Shikha said the inability to prove one’s identity can be a barrier in accessing public benefits and subsidies. The poor and marginalised are denied an opportunity to lead a dignified life, she said, adding that the district administration would issue cards to everyone in the district in the next few months.

Ms. Shikha said inclusion helps a resident get an identity, recognizes her/his existence, and also helps the government reach out to them for various welfare programs.

A permanent Aadhaar helpdesk would soon be set up at ‘Nada Kacheris’ (also called ‘Atal Ji Jena Snehi’ centres), apart from six Mysore-one centres in the city.

She called upon those who have not obtained an Aadhaar card to approach the desk to submit applications.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Archana and Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Department K. Rameshwarappa were present at the meeting. Venkat Somachar, chief coordinator, Centre for e-Governance, and B. Shwetha, technical consultant, briefed the officials about the functioning of a Aadhaar helpdesk.
