BJP’s State president B.S. Yeddyurappa came down heavily on Home Minister G. Parameshwara for defending Amnesty International India.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Tiranga Yatra organised by the party here on Monday. Mr. Yeddyurappa pointed out that Amnesty International has been banned by several countries, and alleged that the Home Minister was defending the organisation while the Congress government in the State was assaulting and caning Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists who were protesting against anti-national statements.
He said it was a crime to defend the forces that were insulting the country’s Army men.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the party would meet Governor Vajubhai Vala and apprise him of the situation in the State. The party was planning to hold a State-wide protest on August 24, he said.
Meanwhile, the Tiranga Yatra saw party activists riding two-wheelers and four-wheelers holding national flags and shouting slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”.
The yatra, which started at Mathrumandali Circle, went through Kalamandira, Vontikoppal and other thoroughfares of the city. Mysuru Lok Sabha MP Pratap Simha and Mysuru city BJP president Manjunath were among the leaders present.
