Vatal Nagaraj, president of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha, has urged the government of Ireland to deliver justice to the family of Savita Praveen Halappanavar, a dentist from Belgaum who died in the Galway University Hospital in Ireland on October 28 following doctors refused to terminate her pregnancy after she suffered a miscarriage.

Mr. Vatal Nagaraj met Dr. Savita’s father, Andanappa Yalgi, here on Sunday.

He appealed to the Karnataka government and the Government of India to use their good offices to ensure that the family got justice from Ireland government.

Speaking to presspersons at Mr. Yalgi’s house, Mr. Vatal Nagaraj said that the Bharatiya Janata Party should use the winter session of the legislature session to be held at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belgaum from December 5 to find ways to address issues of regional imbalances so that the backward north Karnataka region can be brought on a par with other parts of the State.

“The government should not just hold the legislature session at the newly established seat of State power just for the sake of it or to take political mileage out of it but make it meaningful and purposeful for the people of the region,” Mr. Vatal Nagaraj said.
