Tree plantation drive in Bidar

Some organisations celebrated the World Environment Day here on Sunday.

The Chidambar Shikshana Samsthe, Bidar Bar Association, and the District Legal Services Authority organised a tree plantation drive on Siddharoodh Mutt premises. Additional District and Sessions Judge G. Nanjundaiah urged students to realise the impact of climate change and how it could be reduced. “Planting trees is among the simplest methods to do it,” he said.

“We need to make the district drought proof and in this movement, non-governmental organisations, civil society members and resident welfare organisations should join hands with the government,” Mr. Nanjundaiah said.

Tukaram Sagave, Assistant Conservator of Forests, said that the department would distribute saplings to 20,000 students this year. “School children will be taken to forests to create awareness about bio diversity,” he said.

Mission-20 trust members planted around 60 plants in Spring Fields Public School in Mailoor in Bidar city. City Municipal Council member Shivananda Shankarrao, trust president M. Samiuddin, and Shaheen Baig, principal were present. Ms. Baig spoke about global warming and how its effects could be reversed by taking up conservation of soil and water and planting more trees. The trust will take up planting of more trees during monsoon, Mr. Samiuddin said.

Bidar Zilla Panchayat president Bharatbai Kodambal planted saplings at the animal poly clinic. Officials of the Veterinary Department were present. The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and other organisations planted saplings at the Sai Baba temple near Jail Colony.
