The critically acclaimed Indian films that featured in the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India will be screened at the Karnataka Sangha and Kuvempu University campus in Shankaraghatta near here from Thursday to Saturday.
The event, named the ‘Indian Panorama Film Festival’, is being organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations and Belli Mandala, the district unit of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy. K. Channabasappa, Additional Deputy Commissioner, told reporters on Monday that the film festival provides an opportunity for Shivamogga residents and university students to understand the recent trends in Indian cinema. Apart from Hindi, Bengali and Marathi, films made in Wancho, Assamese and Konkani will also be screened, he said.
Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri will inaugurate the film festival. The inaugural ceremony will commence at 1 p.m. on Thursday. It will be followed by the screening of ‘Court’, a Marathi film directed by Chaitanya Tamhane. S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, chairman of the academy, and N. Vidyashankar, film critic, will take part as resource persons.

The screening schedule at Karnataka Sangha is as follows: Thursday— ‘Elizabeth Ekadashi’ (Paresh Mokashi, Marathi, 6.30 p.m.); Friday— ‘The Head Hunter’ (Nilanjan Dutta, Wancho, 4.30 p.m.), ‘Cinemawala’ (Koushik Ganguly, Bengali, 6.30 p.m.); Saturday— ‘Masaan’ (Neeraj Ghaywan, Hindi, 4.30 p.m.), ‘Kathyar Kaligith Gausli’ (Subhod Bhave, Marathi, 6.30 p.m.).
The schedule at Kuvempu University: Thursday — ‘Court’ (11.30 a.m.), Kathyar Kaligith Gausli (3 p.m.); Friday – ‘Masaan’ (10 a.m.), ‘Koyad’(Manju Borah, Assamese, 12.15 p.m.), ‘Nachom-ia Kumpasar’ (Bardroy Barretto, Konkani, 3 p.m.); Saturday — ‘The Head Hunter’ (10 p.m.), ‘Cinemawala’ (12.15 p.m.), ‘Aankhon Dekhi’ (Rajat Kapoor, Hindi, 3 p.m.).
