While the renowned Rukmini Devi Arundale took up the responsibility of popularising the dance in Tamil Nadu, a parallel attempt was made in the 1960s by B.V.K. Shastry and Kendriya Sangeeta Natak Academy in Bengaluru. Many Kuchipudi workshops and events were held.
Andhra Natyam by Sunanda Devi also added to the increase in popularity. Soon, Karnataka witnessed several performances by Yamini Krishnamurthy and Latha of the Gubbi Veeranna family taking the art in its new form to people.
Vyjayanthi Kashi, of the Gubbi Veeranna family, runs her Kuchipudi school in Bengaluru now.
