Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has demanded the resignation of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan for his alleged involvement in a Rs.105-crore bank fraud.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said Mr. Khan was indicted for writing off loans extended by Amanath Cooperative Bank Ltd., Bangalore, when he was its president.
“He has violated the code of ethics of the House,” Dr. Swamy said. The office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Bangalore, found in an inquiry that Mr. Khan and his family were responsible for the fraud.

Dr. Swamy said the Reserve Bank of India had also taken cognisance of the offence and criminal cases were filed against Mr. Khan and the erstwhile Board of Directors and other officials of the bank for recovery of the amount. He criticised Mr. Khan for urging the Centre to set up Islamic banks.
Flaying the Shiv Sena for its ‘Mumbai for Marathis’ campaign, Dr. Swamy challenged Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray to prove that he was genetically different from the rest of the Indians. “I challenge the Thackerays to first demonstrate they are genetically different from the rest of Indians for making such claims of exclusivity for the mythical distinctiveness of the Marathi manoos.”
Seventy per cent of the words of Marathi derived from Sanskrit, so it was no different from any other Indian language, he said.

Dr. Swamy congratulated RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on showing “true statesmanship and Hindutva” by declaring that all Indians were children of ‘Bharat Mata,’ and every inch of India belonged to all patriotic Indians, irrespective of region, religion and language.
