The State government has decided to call a meeting of all party leaders, legal experts and Kannada protagonists soon to elicit their views on the written submission to be made before the Supreme Court, which is set to hear the maintainability of Maharashtra’s original suit on boundary dispute with Karnataka.
Announcing this in the Assembly on Tuesday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil, who is also in charge of the legal team looking into boundary disputes, said the petition was coming up for hearing on March 10.
He expressed satisfaction over the January 23 order by the three-member Bench of the Supreme Court, which had observed that the boundary dispute was a Constitutional issue, indicating that it should be referred to Parliament. Terming this as vindication of Karnataka’s stand that it was not proper to take such issues before the Supreme Court, he said the State was getting ready to present a strong legal case.
