The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) staged a demonstration outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Saturday demanding that the government start preschools. Holding placards and banners and raising slogans, the activists said that government preschools was the only effective way to minimise the exploitation by private institutions.

“Private preschools are mushrooming everywhere capitalising the absence of government preschools. They are exploiting helpless people by imposing unjustifiable fees. The government should open preschools throughout the State to safeguard the interests of the common people who are unable to afford private preschools,” Sharanu B. Gaddige, north Karnataka president of the organisation, said. A memorandum was submitted to the office of Deputy Commissioner.

Their demands included 10 per cent reservation for those who have studied from Class 1 to Class 10 in Kannada medium in government jobs; stopping the process of closing and merging of government primary schools; and taking steps to curb the practice of donation in private schools.
