The Hassan police on Thursday night arrested an inter-State gang of six people allegedly involved in several cases of attempt to break open ATMs.
Three revolvers, 12 bullets, gas cutters, and a car were seized from the arrested.
The arrested are Anil Kumar (25) of Agra, Uttar Pradesh; Rajaram (38) of Badayanur, U.P.; Rasid (28), a mechanic from Nainital, Uttarakhand; Bijender (32) of Rajasthan; Sandesh Shetty (28) of Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district, and Nasbul (35) of U.P., according to the police.

The police said the gang members had attempted to steal cash from ATMs at Gandasi, Banavara and Gorur in Hassan district, Nagamangala in Mandya district and Nanjangud in Mysuru district.
The police arrested the gang members at Dodda Kadanuru village, near Holenarsipur, during their investigation into an attempt to break open an ATM of Canara Bank near Abbanaghatta in Gandasi police station limits which was reported on May 11.

Superintendent of Police R.K. Shahapurwad told presspersons here on Friday that all the accused were history-sheeters. Anil was a sharpshooter and he was accused in a robbery case in Uttara Kannada, and Sandesh was an accused in a murder case, he said.
The officer said Sandesh came in contact with Anil and Rasid in a prison in Karwar. They then formed a group and stayed put in a house at Dodda Kadanuru for the last one month.
The gang members, who had attempted to break open the Ambanaghatta ATM, escaped after firing at police personnel who reached the spot after being alerted. Recently, the gang had allegedly attempted to break open a Corporation Bank ATM at Gorur.
Mr. Shahapurwad said, “Our staff have done a commendable job in arresting these people. We are yet to get more details about other crimes they were involved. One more person of the group is absconding”.
