As the indiscriminate dumping of commercial and poultry waste in public places and along roadsides continues unabated in the town, the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) has warned of penal action against those who are responsible for such activities.
The CMC, issuing a release through the Department of Information and Public Relations, has asked shopkeepers and poultry chicken shop owners to clear solid waste in a hygienic manner, by following guidelines pertaining to the disposal of the same.

There are over 6,000 petty shops, hotels, bakeries, poultry chicken-meat selling centres, wedding halls and other commercial centres across 35 wards in Mandya. The quantity of solid waste being generated from these commercial centres is about 10,000 tonnes every year.
Most of them dump waste in canals, along roads or in vacant areas. They should dispose waste hygienically or hand it over to garbage collectors after segregating wet and dry waste, the officer said.
The CMC has asked the public to dump waste in garbage bins placed at some places around the town.

Penalties will also be imposed on those who dump commercial or poultry waste in public places that increase the chances of health hazards, the officer has warned.
