Jayamrutyunjaya Swami, seer of the Lingayat Panchamasali Jagdguru Mahapeetha of Koodalasangama, has threatened to launch yet another agitation if the State government tried to curb the movement demanding early solution to the Mahadayi river water sharing issue and execution of Kalasa-Banduri canal project.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the seer condemned the State government’s move to file cases and the police seeking externment orders against the farmers who were booked during the agitation a few months ago.
The State government’s move leads to an impression that it was trying to curtail the popular movement using force.

It was wrong to file cases against the farmers who were agitating for a justifiable cause. Now, instead of withdrawing the cases, seeking externment orders against the farmers could not be tolerated.
“The State government should immediately withdraw the cases filed against the farmers, failing which we will be compelled to take to the streets,” he said.
The seer alleged that leaders of all political parties in the State were listening more to their party high command than the plights of the farmers. They have failed to show greater political will to show a sense of unity in resolving this issue.

Moreover, the farmers and the people too are equally at fault as those participating in the agitation had failed to convey a strong message to the politicians during the elections.
The religious leaders could guide the people and also try to convince the politicians, which most of them are doing. Beyond that it was left to the people to tackle the politicians, he said.
