Sangha seeks enhanced compensation for farmers

July 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Rashtriya Kisan Sangha State general secretary Konche Shivarudrappa has alleged that the officials have violated norms while clearing compensation to farmers who lost their land for the construction of NH13 and NH 4 in the district.

The compensation announced was much lower than the present market value of the land.

He told presspersons here on Wednesday that Mallapur village was nearly 3 km away from Chitradurga city and G.R. Halli village was adjacent to Mallapur.

Market value

The market value of land in these two villages was Rs. 51 lakh to Rs. 56 lakh per acre, but the district administration had given a compensation of Rs. 4.89 lakh per acre only. “This shows the negligence and lethargy of the officials in fixing compensation,” Mr. Shivarudrappa said.

He demanded that the officers rectify the loopholes in fixing the compensation. Mr. Shivarudrappa said that the sangha would launch an agitation and stage a rasta roko on the National Highway if the authorities did not solve the issue. He demanded that the authorities take steps to provide government jobs to a member of each family who lost their land for the highway.
