The decision of the Department of Pre University Education to cancel the re-examination in Chemistry subject, the last paper of the PU-II final scheduled to be held on Thursday morning sparked off protests by students in front of various examination centres in the city and other parts of the district.

Deputy Director of the department G.A. Tigadi told The Hindu that senior officials at Bengaluru called him at 6 a.m. and instructed not to conduct the examination and deposit all question papers with the district treasury following a leak of questions last night.

The authorities of the DPUE were presently holding meeting to re-schedule the examination and a next date would be announced shortly, he said.

He said the Chemistry paper was first cancelled when it was leaked on March 21. He could not divulge more on the latest leak saying that the matter was being investigated by the CID police.

They shouted anti-government and anti-PU Board slogans protesting bad arrangements for exams. They also demanded resignation of Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar for not initiating steps to prevent the leak of question paper. They demanded thorough investigation and said that the guilty should be punished sternly.
