No meeting held for Jain festival next year, alleges Hassan MLA

Hassan MLA H.S. Prakash has come down heavily on Hassan district administration for not holding a meeting with the people’s representatives regarding the preparations for Mahamastakabhisheka, Jain festival, to be held in February next year. The mega event is held once in 12 years and funds are provided by different departments of both the State and Central governments. But the administration had not consulted the people’s representatives on the project proposal, Mr. Prakash said at a press conference in Hassan on Tuesday.

“We can seek funds from every department in the run up to this event. The funds should be allotted in the State and Centre budgets. But, I being an MLA of Hassan, do not know what proposal the district administration has submitted to the governments,” he said.

In the previous occasions, the minister in-charge of the district would convene a meeting of MLAs and discuss the preparations in detail. The funds can be used for re-laying roads and developing tourist spots, he said. “For a comprehensive proposal, a meeting should have been held in presence of the Lok Sabha member and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. So far, no meeting has been held,” Mr. Prakash said.

He said if the administration did not make proper efforts to get funds, the district might miss out a good opportunity.
