Marta Jakimowicz chosen for Sameeksha’s Art History Award

Noted art historian and art critic Marta Jakimowicz has been chosen for Dr. Veena Shekar Award for Art History 2016 instituted by Sameeksha Art Research Media for her lifetime achievement in the field of Art History.

Sameeksha has been awarding annual scholarships, fellowships and awards for the upcoming art students for the past four years and honorary awards for the renowned art historians for the past year.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Ms. Jakimowicz has done her MA in Indology from Warsaw University (Indian languages with the main being Sanskrit and culture studies). Having studied art history informally, she initially wrote books in Polish on classical Indian art and mythologies, besides translations from Sanskrit. Later, she stared writing art criticism for journals in Bengaluru. Apart from writing for artists’ monographs, books on art and catalogues. Since 2000, she has done several curated exhibitions in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Mumbai.

Award will be presented to her on Sunday at Venkatappa Art Gallery. At the same time, Sameeksha is presenting a group show of paintings by eight artists - Aishwaryan K., Arpitha T.P., Lohith Kumar M., Prasad K.V., Rekha P., Saleem S., Sheetal C.S., Uday D. Jain from Bengaluru.
