Manipal varsity alumnus at Rio

Manipal University has its presence at the ongoing 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Two physiotherapists, products of the School of Health Sciences, are at the games officially.

According to a press release issued by Manipal University here on Thursday, Kiran C. is with the badminton team, appointed by the Badminton Federation of India, and Digpal Ranawat Takhatsingh was the personal physio of professional shooter, Abhinav Bindra.

Matter of pride

“It is a matter of pride and honour to be working with Mr. Bindra,” who was the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics. It was an experience of my life time,” said Mr. Takhatsingh in his Facebook post.

Vice-Chancellor, H. Vinod Bhat, congratulated Mr. Kiran and Mr. Takhatsingh for the recognition they have received so early in their careers.

“Manipal University is proud of them,” he said. “It speaks volumes about the kind of education we impart here,” he added

Their teacher, G. Arun Maiya, is equally happy. “I am extremely happy that our alumni, Mr. Kiran and Mr. Takhatsingh, physiotherapist, for the Indian badminton team, and Mr. Bindra, respectively, are at the Rio Olympics 2016. Its mater of great pride for our department, institution and the university,” he said.
