Man gets life term for killing wife

The Principal District and Sessions judge has awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife over a dispute related to selling agricultural land.

Syed Ali, resident of Chikkajambur, a village in Shikaripur taluk, had been arrested on the charge of killing his wife Dilshan Khanum on September 22, 2014.

The arrested was stated to have taken loans from various sources and had planned to repay them by selling one acre of agricultural land owned by his family. However, his wife took objection to the idea of selling the land, which was the only source of income for the family. The arrested picked up a quarrel with his wife over the issue and in a fit of anger, he assaulted her seriously, resulting in her death.

The police had booked a case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code against him.

As the charges levelled against him were proved, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs. 50,000 on him.

In another case, the Judicial Magistrate First Class Court at Sorab awarded six months imprisonment to two persons for killing buffaloes by poisoning them.

The Sorab rural police had arrested Pathan Kasim Saab and Hussein Pir Saab, residents of Hirekerur on the charge of killing three buffaloes at Kadasur, a village in Sorab taluk by poisoning them.

As the court found them guilty, it sentenced them to six months in jail, besides imposing a fine of Rs. 9,000 each.
