An adult leopard, which walked into a cattle-shed at Balalingegowdana Doddi in Ramanagaram district, was successfully caged and shifted to the Rescue Centre of Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) on Sunday.

Forest officials said that the feline had entered the cattle-shed of Jogisiddaiah at Balalingegowdana Doddi, a village in Ramanagaram taluk, in search of food.

Mr. Jogisiddaiah had tied some sheep and had not closed the door. The leopard had killed a sheep. Following screams of sheep, Mr. Siddaiah went to the cattle shed. He immediately locked the cattle shed and alerted the police.

According to the police and local residents, the animal was in the shed for nearly 10 hours and seemed exhausted when it was captured.

The wild cat could have entered the human habitat in Balalingegowdana Doddi from Savanadurga, Magadi or Bannerghatta forest ranges. It had sustained minor injuries during its attempt to escape from the shed. The animal will be released in Bannerghatta after treatment, forest department sources said.
