The Karnataka Prisons Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Goa government’s subsidiary, Goa Electronics Limited (GEL) to develop a prison management software.

GEL Chairman Mahendra Khandeparkar said this would help the prison authorities to manage details of each and every prisoner. The information would available to the officials at a click of a mouse, he said.

Goa is the first State to successfully implement this software when it was launched in July 2008. He said the software was fully functional across all jails of the state and carries information regarding each prisoner.

On the MoU with Karnataka, he said the documents were exchanged on September 30 at Bengaluru. The Karnataka Government was represented by Kuchanna Srinivasan (IG Prisons Karnataka) and GEL was represented by B S Borkar (MD, GEL).
